Exporting your design from Design Flex

How to produce the XML export KitchenAPI reads — the menu path, the right export option, and what to watch out for.

The export path

KitchenAPI reads the same XML export that Design Flex produces for downstream use. Here's how to run it:

  1. 1Open your design in Design Flex.
  2. 2Go to Presentation → Reports → Application Integration.
  3. 3Under Program, select Simple export.
  4. 4Click Run.
  5. 5Save the resulting XML file to your computer. That's the file you upload to KitchenAPI.

What the export looks like

The two screenshots below show the menu path and the export dialog in Design Flex:

Make sure you're exporting the right thing

Note: Not your .kit project file — KitchenAPI reads the XML export you run from inside Design Flex. The .kit file is Design Flex's native save format, not the export.

The most common export mistake is using Design Flex's Envisioneer XML option instead of the Application Integration export. Envisioneer XML is a CAD output that's easy to confuse with the design export — but KitchenAPI can't read it. The correct file comes from Presentation → Reports → Application Integration → Simple export → Run.
