Templates
Working with Templates
How templates define your field mapping, and how to load, edit, and save them.
What a template is
A template defines which fields go where — it maps the data in your Cyncly export to the columns QuickBooks expects. KitchenAPI comes with a starting template for each output format, and you can customize it to match exactly how your business invoices.
The Transform step
In the pipeline editor, the Transform step (Step 3) is where mapping happens. You'll see two panes:
- Source (left) — the fields available in your uploaded Cyncly file.
- Target Fields (right) — the columns your QuickBooks file will contain.
Each target field shows what it's mapped from. To change a mapping, select a target field, then choose the source field that should fill it.
Loading a template
- 1In the Transform step, choose Load Template.
- 2Pick a template. You'll see:
- Global templates — the standard starting templates KitchenAPI provides.
- Your templates — templates saved for your workspace, or shared with you.
- 3The template's field mapping loads into the editor, replacing the current mapping.
Editing the mapping
- Select a target field to change what fills it.
- Map it to a source field from the left pane, or set a fixed value.
- Add formatting where needed (for example, formatting a date or a number).
Your changes save automatically as you work, and a save also happens whenever you run a conversion — so your pipeline always runs exactly what you see on screen.
Saving a template
If you've built a mapping you want to reuse, choose Save Template to save it as a new template for your workspace. This doesn't change the original — it creates a new one you can load into other pipelines later.
Note: Editing and saving templates is available to admins. Members can view the mapping but can't change it.
